This rice is cultivated in Kar season and is brown in colour resembling kappa (tapioca). This low GI variant is used in a feast during Seemantham (conducted during pregnancy). It is normally cultivated during samba season. It possesses antioxidant properties and has higher zinc and iron content than white rice.
