The name has been derived due to the shape of the apex of the paddy which is similar to the tip of the awl. An awl is a tool used for piercing holes in wood and leather. Katarni rice is a unique tasting, aromatic, short-grain rice grown in the state of Bihar.
It is an aromatic grain and was reserved for ‘ceremonial’ events. It has a low Glycemic index, thereby lowering the impact of raised blood sugar. It offers a natural source of nutrition and forms dietary stability.
