It has a low GI and originates in Tamilnadu. It has used on special occasions and served to honoured guests. It is an ancient variety of rice eaten only by the King’s family and forbidden for others. Also called forbidden rice in China, as it was grown exclusively for royal families. It is now cultivated organically and available for common people.
It is a great substitute for traditional antioxidant-rich foods. An antioxidant is also known to actively break down the nasty types of arterial plaque and chemically fight high cholesterol levels.

Soak for 4 hours to overnight and cook in 3 cups of water per cup of rice.

Best for Pongal. Alternate for table rice.

To make puttu maavu, soak the rice for 3 hours and dry it in a cotton cloth. After drying grind it into a rava type powder and dry roast the powder nicely. Then allow it cool for one day and you can store it in air tight container.

1.Take the puttu maavu as much required and add a pinch of salt, one table spoon ghee and cardamom powder as much required.
2. Now add hot water little by little and the flour should be wet at the same it should be in a puttu maavu consistency.
3.Then filter the flour and steam it for half an hour(you can use idly cooker itself)
4. Then roast the coconut and cashew in the ghee and add it after steamed
5. Add brown sugar according to your sweetness and add one table spoon of ghee as a final touch.

All rice orders will be dispatched directly from Vilvah Farm and they may not be combined with non-rice orders. Since all the rice varieties are harvested and processed completely organic, it’s natural to have some bugs sometimes. Please put some neem leaves or chillies in the rice storage.

All rice orders will be charged 50/- per kg as a shipping charge irrespective of your order value.
